Character Meta Tracker

This is an AD&D Toolkit system that Dungeon Masters can employ to track the behavior of Characters within their campaign over time. It accomplishes this via subjective meta information. You can watch a short video showcasing the new system on our Youtube channel.

What Does it Track?

There is lots of information that would be helpful for a DM to track about their players that is not ordinarily found on a Character sheet. This information is campaign-specific and is more appropriately tracked within the campaign notes. Characters likewise should not always be privy to it. Alas, the Character Meta Tracker system!

The Meta Tracker currently allows DMs to document how well Characters adhere to their Lawfulness and Goodness as per their chosen Alignment, treatment and pay of Henchmen and Hirelings, and devotion to a Deity(ies). The system is highly extensible from a development point-of-view so community members ought not be shy in making #suggestions for data to track.

As an example, DMs are expected to monitor and document actions/behaviors of characters that are out of the scope of their chosen Alignment. A Lawful Good Paladin that engages in an evil act such as abusing a prisoner of war. These transgressions ought to result in omens or warnings from their Deity. Too many will ultimately trigger an involuntary change in Alignment.

How Do You Use It?

In the Campaign Manager, DMs will find a horizontal track of 15 simulated LED buttons for each dimension being tracked. It is recommended that each time a character acts in a way that violates their current status, the DM click the next button left or right of the current status to indicate a drift in that direction. You may of course choose to click a button more than one button away to indicate a stronger drift. This is left up to each DM to adjudicate.

Color Key

Meta TrackerEach track holds 15 buttons, the middle 5 representing neutrality along that dimension. Their are three colors(blue, yellow, and red) for each state along the dimension. Additionally there are transition colors between them(orange and green) signaling a shift is imminent.
